Have you ever felt rejected? Sure you have. It doesn't feel good does it? Imagine, however, feeling rejected by God. It's one thing if a person rejects us, but it's another thing when we feel we've been rejected by the God who loves us. It can be a lonely feeling. One that can conjure up anger, disappointment, frustration, and even an erosion of trust.
In Psalms 74, David addresses his disappointment with God. He details his frustrations one-by-one:
- We see no miraculous signs
- All the prophets are gone
- There's no end in sight in battling the enemy
- And, there's an endless blasphemy of God's name
In spite of this, David chose to reflect on "who" God is and "what" God has done - (74:12-17). This is exactly what you and I need to do when we feel disillusioned in life and put the blame at God's feet. Only when we understand who God is and how He works will the right emotions surface in our lives.
In the next couple of chapters, David offers some great insight and wisdom. Here are a few:
- When all hell breaks lose in your life, God is the One who can keep you calm. - 75:3
- God is the one who elevates a person to greatness or to defeat. - 75:6-7
- Power doesn't belong to the strong, it belongs to the godly. - 75:10
- The more a man opposes God, the more glory God receives as He executes His judgment. - 76:10
- If you promise God something, make it happen. - 76:11
