Psalms 110 - 113

Today we'll look at 4 brief chapters in Psalms. And, with the chapters being only a few verses long, we'll do the same tomorrow.

Most people don't realize that Psalms 110 is the cornerstone of the Christian faith! In fact, verse 1 has been one of the most quoted verses in all of the Bible. In fact, this chapter is called by the Jews the "Messianic Song" because it speaks of the coming Messiah, whom we Christians know as Jesus.

Listen to what David says in Psalms 110:1,

"The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies making them a footstool under your feet.” The Lord will extend your powerful kingdom from Jerusalem[b]you will rule over your enemies."

David is referring to God the Father speaking to His Son Jesus telling Him to sit at His right hand. Not only is Jesus at the right hand of God the Father acting as God Himself, but in this passage we also see the plurality of God - meaning that God is One God but in at least two persons. While there are many references to the plurality of God throughout the Bible, we've come to understand that there are actually three persons in the Godhead - the Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit.

When David speaks of how the Father will extend "your powerful kingdom from Jerusalem; you will rule over your enemies", He's speaking of Jesus' 1000 year reign on earth AFTER the 7 years of  severe tribulation on the earth. Jesus will come back to earth with ALL the believers who've died prior to this event or has been raptured, He'll destroy the Antichrist and his armies, and will sit in Jerusalem as the ruler of the world and we, as believers, will rule and reign with Him for 1000 years.

The rest of chapter 110 shares how Jesus will rule the world, judging the heathen and bringing the world into an awareness of holy living.

In Psalms 111, David offers some valuable information about God:

- He is amazing is ALL that He does!
- He reveals His glory in ALL that He does!
- He's a righteous God whose righteousness will last forever!
- He's a gracious God, full of compassion!
- He is our Provider!
- He is a Promise Keeper!
- His commandments are trustworthy and forever true!
- To fear God is the beginning of wisdom!

In Psalms 112, God provides some great instruction with PROMISES:

- Live a holy life and your children will be blessed!
- The way to shine God's light of love is to be generous, compassionate, and righteous.
- Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct business fairly.
- The righteous don't fear bad news, but confidently trust the Lord!
- We're to share freely and give generously to those in need. When we do that, our good deeds will be remembered forever!

I love the instruction of Psalms 113:3

"Everywhere—from east to west— praise the name of the Lord."
"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised." (KJV)

We're to ALWAYS be praising the Lord!

When's the last time you've had a "praise-fest" with the Lord, a time where you got alone with Him to just praise Him for ALL that's He's done?  Is He worth your time?  Think about it!
