David is now old and gray. His once powerful strength that defeated hundreds of enemy soldiers is waning. As he reflects on his life, there are three things from this passage that he considers:
1) His frailty and need for God. Sadly, when we're young and strong, we tend to have less of a dependency on God. We think we're going to live forever and we can accomplish almost anything. However, as we get older, reality tends to settle in. We come to an undeniable truth that no matter how strong or smart we think we are, we are no match for the things life can throw at us.
In Psalms 70, David reflects on that reality. Now that he is old, he realizes he still has a lot of enemies out there that continue to attack him verbally. He begs for God's protection and he begs for God to hurry.
Can you relate?
2) His testimony of God's faithfulness. In Psalms 71, David says, "My life is an example to many,
because you have been my strength and protection." As a result, David asks God to allow his life to be a lighthouse showing all people of the greatness of his God. David has experienced many of life's challenges and tragic events, but God has delivered him from them all.
Listen to what he says here, "You have allowed me to suffer much hardship but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God."
No matter how bad it gets, God isn't through with you until He calls you home. Keep looking for what He's actively doing in your life and join Him in it!
3) Let others benefit from his Godliness. Psalms 72 is a prayer that God will bless others, his nation, and the harvest of the land as a result of his Godly walk with the Lord. It can also happen through your life too! Maybe your prayer today should be, "God let others benefit from my walk with you."
God can and will use you if you let Him! The question is, "Will you let Him?" What do you want God to accomplish through your life today? Who can benefit from the power of God working in you and through you today?
