Job 1-3

Click on the scripture above to read today's Bible text!

The book of Job has been considered one of the oldest and most fascinating books of the Bible. It is the first of 5 books commonly called the "Books of Poetry", which include Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. They are called this due to the poetic style of writing compared to the narrative style of the other books of the Bible.
- Job tells us "How to suffer"
- Psalms tells us "How to pray"
- Proverbs tells us "How to act"
- Ecclesiastes tells us "How to enjoy life"
- Song of Solomon tells us "How to love"

Job 1 is an eye opener! It tells us how Satan and other angels came to appear before the Almighty presence of God and how they were to give account of what they were doing.

Here are a couple of lessons we can learn from these 3 chapters:

1) God will sometimes test us! God was proud of Job. So proud, that He bragged about his integrity to Satan. Unfortunately, Satan hated that comment! Consequently, he accused God of surrounded him with His blessings and challenged Him to test Job by allowing him to take away all that was near and dear to Job. God agreed to the test and allowed Satan to test Job. However, God knew something that Satan didn't know! God knew exactly what Job was made of. He knew Job would endure the test...and he did!

Listen, God never allows us to go through a temptation that we're not able to bear. He will never allow Satan to attempt anything He knows will absolutely destroy us. God knew Job's limits and He knows your limits as well! Unfortunately, we don't always pass the test like Job did!

2)) No one has had it worse than Job! There are many people who have experienced terrible tragedies in life, but no one has probably experienced quite the destruction of life that Job experienced. I've heard many people complain about how they've been victimized by circumstances, but Job's circumstances go way beyond what most people have gone through! Notice what he lost (all at once!):
- His wealth (cattle, sheep, camels, etc)
- His children (7 of them!)
- His servants (employees)
- His health (nearly died!)
- His wife tells him to curse God and die!
- His spirit is wounded deeply - 6:4

It was so bad, that he wished:
- He had never been born
- He could die!

The next time you feel you've been victimized by circumstances or feel like God has abandoned you, read the book of Job!

God bless!
